Isidor Kaufman (March 22, 1853-1921) was an Austro-Hungarian painter of Jewish themes. Having devoted his career to genre painting, he traveled throughout Eastern Europe in search of scenes of Jewish, often Hasidic life.
Born to Hungarian Jewish parents in Arad, Kingdom of Hungary (presently in Romania), Kaufman was originally destined for a commercial career, and could fulfill his wish to become a painter only later in life.
In 1875 he went to the Landes-Zeichenschule in Budapest, where he remained for one year. In 1876, he left for Vienna, but being refused admission to the Academy of Fine Arts there, he became a pupil of the portrait-painter Aigner. He then entered the Malerschule of the Vienna Academy, and later became a private pupil of Professor Trenkwald.

Jacob Jordaens was a Flemish baroque painter, born in Antwerp (now in Belgium). About 1615 Jordaens was admitted to the Antwerp art guild. By 1621 he had his own workshop and was head of the guild. His talent attracted the attention of the Flemish master Peter Paul Rubens, who employed him as an assistant. Jordaens was clearly influenced by Rubens, and although his style was not as refined as that of Rubens, he is nevertheless considered one of the leaders of northern baroque art.

Heywood Hardy was born in Chichester, on 25th November 1842, son of the artist James Hardy, Snr (1801-79) and younger brother of James Hardy Jnr (1832-89).
Hardy left home at the age of 17, and attempted to earn a living by painting animal paintings. Hardy did this successfully and, after a short time with the 7th Somerset Volunteers, Hardy borrowed some money from his brother and travelled to Paris. In 1864 Hardy entered the Beaux Arts to study under the battle artist, Pielse.
Hardy returned to England in 1868 and found he was in great demand.
